There is a limit to what you can do from the outside. Microneedling works the other way round: it stimulates your skin's own repair through controlled micro-injury, so the improvement comes from your skin rather than from a product sitting on top of it. Serums work on the surface. Exfoliants take the surface away. Both are useful, and both stop at the same place.
But the things that bother most people about their skin are not on the surface. Scarring sits underneath it. Enlarged-looking pores are a structural thing. Fine lines are a loss of firmness. Uneven texture is the skin itself, not what is sitting on it.

Red, warm and tight, a bit like mild sunburn. This is the most dramatic it gets and it settles faster than you expect.
Pink fading to normal. Your skin may feel rough or dry, and some people flake. Do not exfoliate it. Let it do what it is doing.
The point of the whole thing. Your skin has been building collagen and the texture starts to change. Most people notice it in photographs first.
One session helps. A course is what changes texture and scarring properly, spaced several weeks apart so your skin can finish one round before starting the next.
